Arturo Uslar Pietri (16 May 1906 – 26 February 2001). Mr. Uslar Pietri was a writer and an intellectual and, perhaps, the most prominent Venezuelan figure of the twentieth century. His contributions as a politician, a diplomat and especially as an educator and journalist were immeasurable. Most of his writings still resonate today, many years after Mr. Uslar Pietri’s passing. I have always had admiration and respect for this noble Venezuelan gentleman.
This photograph belongs to a series of 28 images I’m making for a photo challenge, 28photosx28days, launched by my former school in Caracas, Roberto Mata Taller de Fotografía. This isn’t the image I sent but the one picked is very similar. At the end, I liked this one better. Achieving the final, edited image in such a short period of time—we only get 28 hours to shoot, select and edit—has been the most demanding part of the process.
I particularly liked this assignment because it required a few things for me to work on it: childhood memories, image research and plain old getting creative. The photo was taken outside Stumptown Coffee in Capitol Hill, Seattle.
